2009 Muestra Internacional de Cine Documental y Etnográfico en Puerto Rico

Bienvenidos,

The showcase will take place from April 21 – 24, 2009 in various venues of the city of San Juan, Puerto Rico. The main purpose of the event is to bring together people who are interested in the capacities of the visual medium to explore and communicate diverse aspects of social life. The event’s scope is international and we are looking forward to screening documentaries from the Greater Caribbean and from all over the world. More importantly, we strongly encourage the filmmakers who are presenting their work, as well as like minded individuals, to come to Puerto Rico for the event and share their insights and experiences on the documentaries screened.

The main event of the showcase will be a four-day screening of ethnographic and documentary films. There is no specific theme or regional emphasis on this program. The selection committee will prioritize submissions that demonstrate an intimate “insider perspective” of the subject matter as manifest through the piece’s cinematography and editing. Our program will showcase films that offer a refreshing insight into the world we live in. The intention is to generate discussions on the role that audiovisual media play in the representation of culture and the different ways in which these representations are mediated.

The general screening is a competitive event. A jury composed of filmmakers, academics and artists from Puerto Rico and abroad, will offer prizes and special mentions to the most outstanding films. Aside from the general screening program, we will program panels, presentations and workshops given by local and international guests.

We are very excited about this event and we are looking forward to your submissions and your visit to Puerto Rico.
