The first two days (April 21-22, 2009) will take place at the Faculty of Social Science of the Río Piedras campus of the University of Puerto Rico (UPR). Two amphitheaters fitted with projectors and surround sound will be made available for the screenings and the special events. The Río Piedras campus is the biggest and oldest campus of the UPR system. It is located in the borough of Río Piedras, on the southern end of the city of San Juan. Río Piedras has historically had a distinct character in relation to the rest of the city and is today known as one of the most colorful parts of the city. Its many cafes, shops, bars, market, theaters, and bookstores and its thriving student community will surely stimulate the general ambiance of the showcase. The third day of the showcase (April 23, 2009) will be hosted by the Universidad del Sagrado Corazón (USC), in the borough of Santurce. USC boasts the most respected filmmaking and visual arts programs of Puerto Rico. Transport between the two universities is facilitated by a light rail train and frequent buses. The fourth and final day of the showcase (April 24, 2009) will be held in Old San Juan. The screenings at the Old City will be complemented by a small exhibit of Puerto Rican documentary photography and a screening of recently completed documentaries made in Puerto Rico. After the screenings we will have our closing comments, awards ceremony and guests can retire to any of the many cafes, bars, dancing halls and restaurants that dot one of the oldest cities of the Americas. |
